Dominic Burris pleads guilty in 2023 “Nudieland” mass shooting
1/29/2025
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office secured guilty pleas from Dominic James Burris, 18, in relation to a mass shooting at the “Nudieland” concert venue in Minneapolis on Aug. 11, 2023.
The shooting resulted in the death of August Golden and traumatic injuries to several others.
Mr. Burris was 17 years old at the time of the shooting and was subsequently certified as an adult. Under the terms of the agreement, Mr. Burris pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting second-degree intentional murder and aiding and abetting first-degree assault, great bodily harm.
He will serve a sentence of 278 months.
“This was a senseless attack on members of our LGBTQ+ community who were enjoying an evening of music and camaraderie in Minneapolis. I have been continually amazed by the strength of those close to August throughout this process,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “Mr. Burris’s actions took August’s life and traumatized many more. It should never have happened, and the length of this sentence holds him accountable for the significant harm he caused and protects our community.”
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office previously secured a plea deal with an eight-year public safety process and significant stayed prison time for Cyrell Ernest Boyd, 18, a lesser-involved co-defendant.
The execution of that agreement required Mr. Boyd to assist in the prosecution against Mr. Burris, who was determined to be the major perpetrator and instigator of the Nudieland shooting.
Sentencing is currently scheduled for March 24 at 1:30 p.m.
