Dominick Kirkland sentenced to 480 months for February 2024 shooting
4/28/2025
Dominick Ramone Thomas Kirkland, 27, was sentenced Monday to 480 months for killing Samuel Yeager on Feb. 14, 2024.
Mr. Kirkland pleaded guilty to second-degree intentional murder on Feb. 28, 2025.
“My thoughts are with Samuel’s family and loved ones,” Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said. “This was a callous act of extreme violence. Mr. Kirkland is being held accountable, and a lengthy prison sentence is appropriate in the interest of public safety.”
The 480-month sentence is an upward departure from the presumptive sentence under the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines due to the particular cruelty of the act, failure to render aid, and greater than normal danger to the community due to many other individuals being in the area of the shooting.
Mr. Kirkland has 351 days of credit for time already served.
Case Number: 27-CR-27-7479
Additional information:
The Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines determine the presumptive sentence for felony offenses. The presumptive sentence is reached by comparing the severity level of the offense with the defendant’s criminal history score. In this instance, the presumptive sentence for Mr. Kirkland was 306 months.
A sentence may depart from the sentencing guidelines if the court finds it appropriate.
