A Minneapolis man was charged with second-degree murder of a man on West River Parkway, according to Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
Abdirahman Yusuf, 25, was charged in the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Burka O. Mohammed near West River Parkway and Third Avenue. Yusuf is expected to make his first court appearance Friday. Prosecutors are seeking $1 million in bail.
According to the complaint, police were looking for a suspect in another case about 11:50 p.m. Aug. 12 when they found Mohammed bleeding on the ground. Paramedics pronounced him dead when they arrived.
Surveillance video and photos from the scene helped police identify who was with Mohammed that evening: Yusuf, and two other men who are witnesses to the fatal stabbing, the complaint states.
According to the complaint, both witnesses have said Yusuf was behaving aggressively towards Mohammed before stabbing him multiple times. Both witnesses fled the scene during the altercation.
Through Facebook, one of the witnesses was able to show police Yusuf’s page, confirming he was the individual in the surveillance video and photos stabbing Mohammed. That led to other evidence and police were able to locate Yusuf.
While in custody, Yusuf identified himself in the surveillance photos, eventually admitting to stabbing Mohammed, the complaint states.
According to the autopsy, Mohammed was stabbed 14 times: seven to his chest, three to his back, and one to the neck.
