Man and woman charged in separate Minneapolis homicides

1/25/2021

Two Minneapolis residents were charged in two unrelated homicides, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Monday.

Prince Brown, 36, was charged with second-degree unintentional murder in the fatal shooting of 38-year-old David Spicer. The shooting occurred on Brown’s birthday. Angelique Simons, 47, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 40-year-old Joseph Pixley.

According to the criminal complaint, Brown, Spicer and others were in the kitchen of a home in the 400 block of 33rd Avenue North just before 10 p.m. on January 21. There was a gun on the table and Brown began handling it recklessly. He shoved a magazine into the gun, then removed it. He then jammed a different magazine in and the gun went off, hitting Spicer once in the torso.

In the other homicide, Simons told Pixley to come to a house in the 2000 block of Queen Avenue North and he arrived shortly before 4 a.m. Jan. 22. Once in the house, she demanded he pay her $60 dollars he owed her, and if he didn’t, she would have her son hurt him, the complaint states.

A short time later, Simons said she would do it herself and pulled out a knife and stabbed Pixley once in the chest. She and others in the house left, taking the knife which was placed in a paper bag. Pixley died about a half-hour later at North Memorial Heath Hospital’s emergency room.

Both Brown and Simons are expected to make their first court appearances Tuesday.
